Of the fifty-odd goals the Over 35s have scored this season, the following have been selected as contenders for Goal of the Season:
GORDON DEAS
Game 1, October 20, 2007
YC&AC Over 35s 4 v Budgies 3
Receiving the ball with his back to goal on the corner of the 18-yard area, Gordon turned his marker with his first deft touch and with his second fired the ball into the top right hand corner.
ALEX HENDY
Game 3, November 4, 2007
YC&AC Over 35s 3 v ACA 7
Alan Plater fizzed over a cross from the right in the approximate direction of my ass, 12 yards out to the right. I jumped and simultaneously did something flicky with the outside of my right boot, steering the ball in an arc over the audibly despairing dive of the ACA keeper and just under the crossbar.
DENNIS STANWORTH
Game 4, November 18, 2007
YC&AC Over 35s 5 v FC Reunited 1
Russell Brown swings over a huge corner which is met by the extended big toe of Dennis Stanworth, who had ghosted in at the far stick on his left knee. So often this type of deep whipped delivery bombs harmlessly out of play, but Dennis used all his experience to anticipate the chance, and he finished with aplomb.
ALAN PLATER
Game 10, January 19, 2008
YC&AC Over 35s 3 v Marinos Papas 2
Alan won possession thirty yards out. Using pace, strength and sheer bloody-mindedness Alan then held, lost and won back possession as he ploughed purposefully toward the pool. Then suddenly he shot. From fractionally inside the deadball line at the point where it meets the six-yard line Alan let fly. Fizzzz…
MARC BAILEY
The Scholars Cup, March 9, 2008
YC&AC Over 35s 2 v Yokohama International School Teachers 0
Captain Sada Hosogai started the move deep in our own half. Playing toward the Paul Blamire Shed End, Sada carried the ball to the halfway line at speed before neatly squaring it inside. Our midfielders then switched the play out to the right, providing Jan Broere with the opportunity to cross from deep in Dragons’ territory. This he did superbly, picking out the onjogging Marc Bailey near the penalty spot who headed powerfully past the YIS keeper.

Think it has to be Marcs against the Teachers. Really made by Sada with a fantastic run from his own half. I think Sada crossed it, it went behind me straight to Jan whocrossed it first time and superbly headed in by Marc. Remined me a bit of your goal Alex in the friendly at Shin yoko earlier in the season- real end to end stuff

Since I can’t vote for myself I’m inclined to agree, Alan. Marc’s was genuinely a great team goal. Season’s not over yet though… Goal of the Season, and even the Golden Slipper, are still up for grabs.
